The C’s of story

Nvidia is about speed. National instruments is precision. I like AMD’s ‘together, we advance’ and the song

Together we climb to the top of the world
We can be what we want for the world to see
That we are the children of yesterday’s dream

Well actually, this is also about the graduation, as yesterday’s dream, I attended that gave orientation to life’s story.

Unlike the Nvidia, NI and AMD’s C for computing, my C’s of the story is patterned from the commencement speaker’s lesson: character, conflict, course.

Character

Character is an individual’s enduring moral, ethical, and psychological blueprint, shaping their choices, values, and distinct way of being human. In fiction, it is a constructed identity defined by distinct traits, flaws, and desires whose choices drive the narrative and reflect human truth.

Why do I still see engineering in that definition? Blueprints? Constructed?

Is the character designed on identifying problems, gaps as I see traits, flaws and desires? (Specifications and constraints)

Or, is the character built in the process of evaluation, iteration of values and understanding roles (conditional, looping and assignment statements in programming)

I just want to reflect on human truth and trust its worth.

Conflict

Here comes the exciting part. Human truth is messy. We are main character in our story. Learning from the villains (in your perspective) and supporting characters is character development.

And the scoring goes

We have the yearning to do what is best
Be someone special from all of the rest
Nation and brothers in unity
Building tomorrow for you and for me

‘Nation and brothers in unity’ highlights the conflict when everyone has ‘main character’ need for validation or authority.

Regardless, I am hopeful that character will not end up disillusioned.

Course

I like the ‘Building tomorrow for you and for me’ thingy as a goal. It will be a journey of conflicts and interests.

But for now, I am celebrating with you in your respective courses. Your graduation is Yesterday’s dream, experiences achieved. Reflect on the conflicts cleared, character developed and look for or ‘C’ the next destination.
