AI isn’t just coming; it’s already the wallpaper of our digital lives. As it shifts from a tool we use to an environment we inhabit, a critical tension has emerged: Control vs. Regulation. While they sound similar, they represent two very different paths for our future.
Here is a look at how we navigate this “overwhelming presence” using the DEAR framework.
Dream: The Vision of Harmony
Imagine a world where AI acts as a seamless extension of human intent. In this dream, “Control” isn’t about stifling innovation; it’s about agency. Agency is the AI’s ability to plan, use tools and adjust strategy. Compared to today’s AI just answering question, agency enables the AI to act independently to achieve goal.

Generative agency starts with dreaming various future to simulate which decision is best. However, the prediction of future can be hallucinated when data is not factual nor available. Because it needs to manage and make decision now .
Digital being as a dream coming true moves from being tool to a partner. Also, dream with agency in it shifts from a simulation to emulation.
We envision a future where an individual has total sovereignty over their data and the algorithms they interact with. Regulation, in this ideal state, isn’t a bureaucratic hurdle but a protective shield—a set of global “rules of the road” that ensure AI remains a tide that lifts all boats, rather than a wave that crashes over us.
My dream to democratize AI does not only mean equal access to everyone but equity to support those who need it most.
Engaging to that dream seems to be a struggle.
